| Our services include ambulatory farm calls, hospital appointments, hospitalization, breeding services, and minor surgical procedures. We provide veterinary care for horses, cattle, llamas, goats, and sheep. With the exception of herd health management we require goat and sheep owners to bring their animals to us for care. Cattle owners must have an adequate head gate and chute system for controlling the animals for us to see them on the farm or they may be brought to the clinic.
Additions to Services Offered at Large Animal Veterinary ServicesPreventive Foot Care Did you ever wonder how your farrier knows exactly where and how to apply your horse's shoe for the perfect fit? Most farriers are very experienced and can make a good guess based on the way the foot appears and the way the hoof lands. However, a more precise measurement can be made based on the location of the coffin bone (the last bone in the foot) in relation to the shoe. To do these measurements, we take a lateral radiograph (x-ray) of the front feet and measure the amount of shoe in front of and behind the center of the coffin joint. Research has shown that optimal heel support, which is critical for the soundness and longevity of the horse, occurs when at least 50% of the shoe is behind this point. We provide these radiographs and measurements at our clinic for $75.00. We can also have an experienced farrier available for shoeing and consultation at the time the radiographs are taken, or we will be happy to work with your farrier to make shoeing adjustments. This service has already been beneficial for many clients. Please call us if you have any questions, or would like to make an appointment. This program was adapted from original research conducted by Dr. Richard Mansmann at Central Carolina Equine Practice in Chapel Hill. We can breed your favorite mare to your favorite stallion, flush the embryo after conception, and implant it in another mare. The benefits of this procedure include the ability to continue to ride your mare throughout "her" pregnancy, increased fertility for at risk or hard to breed mares, and the ability to register more than one foal by a mare each year (some breed registries do not allow this). In order to perform embryo transfer, you must have at least three potential recipient mares per donor mare for optimal cycle synchronization and conception. If you are interested in this procedure, please call us for further details.
