Vaccinations

Covexin 8 (Clostridium perfringes Types C and D plus Tetanus)-twice yearly; Rabies-annually; vaccinate kids at weaning, boostering 3-4 weeks after first vaccination; adults can be vaccinated anytime, including pregnancy.

Deworming

Ivomec drench or Cydectin orally-give monthly dosing by weight; Coccidia prevention (Sulfadimethoxime or CoRid)-add to water for seven days each month (must be only water source)

Nutrition

Grass hay (fescue, timothy, orchard grass, coastal bermuda)-free choice if no pasture is available, monitor weight; Goat feed-a small amount to supplement hay is fine but don't overdo it; Avoid sweet feed due to urinary tract problems associated with its' use

Other

Trim feet as needed-check monthly when you deworm if terrain is rocky they may not need trimming; Fecal exams-collect a few fresh pellets from a couple of piles in each pasture and bring by to check for parasite eggs three to four times yearly to assess effectiveness of your deworming program; Shearing of wooled sheep should be done in the spring of each year to prevent heat stress associated with hot, humid weather in our area.
